MOTHERHOOD: Hold on to Your Position
The Bible admonishes older women to teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children. Being sober takes on the understanding of curbing ones desires and impulses or being self-controlled. It can also mean: restore one to his senses or to hold one to his duty.
As a mother whose children are now grown, I can tell you from experience it is a joyful thing to "hold to your duty" of motherhood and eventually see the fruit of your reward. There is a sweetness to the victory of holding on to a child while the devil would pull him off course. Jesus said this concerning his disciples in John 17:19: "For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth." When we as "mothers" hold to the duty of "motherhood," it sets up the lives of our children for them to be all they were intended to be. That is a wonderful legacy to leave in the earth.
I now understand the need to learn to love our husbands and children. Generally speaking, we automatically love them emotionally, but we must learn to love them in action. One avenue of love is to take our position and hold to the duties of that position.
In a world full of people who are out of order and out of control, you, child of God, by His strength and grace, hold your position!
