I think we as Christians need to constantly be encouraged that we don't have to be afraid. We are in this world, but not of it. In Luke 1:74, Zacharias is prophesying concerning Jesus and he says that He is coming...
"...to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear,..."
God's intention is that we be free from fear. Now I realize that we live in a very dangerous society, but let's face it... if our God can raise Jesus from the dead when He was full of every sickness and disease and all sin, then certainly He can keep us from evil and the evil one. I believe God wants us to be so submerged in His Word that we won't even consider being afraid of anything.
In His prayer in John 17, Jesus said to the Father, "keep through Your name those whom You have given Me"; and again, He said, "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name ... those whom You gave to Me I have kept."
Also in 1 Peter 1, we find that there is an inheritance reserved in heaven for those ...
"...who are kept by the power of God through faith."
So there is a miracle working, keeping power of God available to us in the Name of Jesus and through our faith in it. Our enemy will constantly be working to get us to give up our access to God's power by luring us into fears because he knows that fear will bring us his destruction, just as faith will bring us God's miracle working power.
So, my brothers and sisters, FEAR NOT! Our God reigns and His power is available!
