There's a scripture in Hebrews chapter 3 that has always made me sit up and take notice. It's found in verse 12, and it reads like this...
"Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;..."
This portion of scripture goes on to say that God was angry with a generation and would not let them enter into His rest because they did not obey and then repeats it by saying:
"...so we see that they could not enter in (to His Rest) because of unbelief."
An evil heart of unbelief actually means a heart that is "hurtful and diseased by being full of labors and annoyances and by toiling for daily subsistence." My my my ... we could all be guilty of that. Haven't you ever gotten caught up in "trying to meet your own needs, taking care of things yourself or worrying over something?
The thin we in our humanity can get caught up in so easily, God sees as a "diseased heart of unbelief." He sees it as sin because it is taking us from His rest. He wants us to be in His rest because His rest is glorious and the glory is what raised Jesus from the dead.
In other words, it goes like this...
...through believing we enter into God's rest, His rest brings the glory. The glory is the resurrection power; it's what raised Jesus from the dead. We need the resurrection power.
So stay tuned up and don't let your believer run down.
