Gentle and Quiet Spirit

When I was a little girl I used to love to play "dress up." Whenever a friend would come over to play, we would always get into my mother's clothes and shoes and get all dressed up and get in the car and pretend we were driving to town.

As I was thinking about that one day, and how much emphasis we put on our outward beauty, I was reminded of 1 Peter 3:3-4 which says:

"Do not let your beauty be that outward adorning or arranging the hair, of wearing gold, or of putting on fine apparel; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."

Our outward man is perishing day by day but that inner man, that hidden man of the heart is eternal and incorruptible. I don't know about you, but I want to make my major investment in something that is eternal rather than temporal.

That word "quiet" takes on the meaning of being steadfast, immovable, undisturbed and peaceable; and the Bible says this is very precious and of extreme value in the sight of God.

No wonder the enemy is out to steal our peace, but don't let him have it! Purpose to stand steadfast, immovable, undisturbed and peaceable. Hold on to these valuable assets. Let the work of the Holy Spirit be your beauty consultant and take advantage of every opportunity you have to allow Him to develop the image of Christ in you!

After all ... how much more attractive can you get than that?
