Recently I was meditating on the story where Jesus cursed the fig tree. That really is an amazing story and I believe there are so many truths that can be drawn from it. One of those truths is the fact that Jesus was hungry and approached the tree looking for fruit. The Amplified Bible adds in parenthesis that when there are leaves on the fig tree, there should be fruit also. Because He found no fruit, He said to the fig tree, "Let no one eat fruit from you ever again."
I had to stop and ask myself, Lord, if I was that fig tree, would you find fruit in my life? The scriptures show us over and over again that Jesus is serious about our lives bearing fruit.
Another way of putting it is that the Lord is not just interested in our intentions but also in our deeds. It is so easy to have good intentions, but it is much more difficult to follow through on those intentions and DO the deeds.
The Good News of the Gospel is... our Father doesn't just tell us to bear fruit, but He makes it possible through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for us to be empowered to bear fruit.
Let's not just have good intentions, but let's follow through and DO the deeds and we won't be caught with leaves and no fruit like that fig tree.
